The image I used as a sample and the images in greyscaled/netscape palettes are generally the same. Perhaps you screen is ajusted to a too dark level or I made some errorous HTML coding, I cannot say. Here, at the university, I use quite a number of various terminals, which all manage to display the images correctly.

PS. It may also be a trick which your eyes play on you: too bright background around the image may make your eyes not to distinguish the darker image inside.
